About Kitts Camp

  • Family friendly campsite, set around a beautiful copse, with plenty of open space and woodland to explore.

  • Ten minute drive to Haywards Heath, and good transport links with London and the South Coast.

  • In a quiet woodland setting, with firepits provided and a field barn with flushing loos and hot showers.

Kitts Campsite has been a firm favourite on the Sussex camping scene for nearly fifteen years, with many guests returning year after year. Kitts has a charmins atmospheric setting, set in two large and sheltered camping meadows, and on a working farm, surrounded by beautiful ancient woodland as well as sheep grazing in the fields. It  offers scenic views due to it's elevated position. There are different areas designated for families, groups and individuals, and everyone has access to a private firepit. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, as are VW style vans, who can camp alongside others in their group without a van. You can park alongside your camping area saving you from long heavy trips back and forth to the car.

Although Kitts is only a ten minute drive from Hayward's Heath, you will feel like you are in much more secluded countryside. It is located down pretty Sussex lanes, and then up a long track, with only a handful of local neighbours. It is situated between Lewes and Haywards Heath, which is less than an hours drive from London, and regular trains run from both London and Brighton to Haywards Heath, which is only a short taxi ride away.

Kitts is just a short walk away from the Sheffield Park station of the historic Bluebell Railway, offering a nostalgic steam train experience through the Sussex countryside. If you listen closely you can regularly hear the whistle of a steam train approaching. The Sloop Inn is an award winning rustic Sussex pub, just an 8 minute walk away, offering delicious locally sourced pub food (on the higher end), local ales and local wine set in a traditional pub setting with a huge and very popular beer garden. Nearby there is also the Farmers pub in Scaynes Hill, as well as the 360 tap room and the Bluebell Vineyard (all a close walk away).

There are plenty of local footpaths and cycle routes nearby including the Ouse Valley Way, which runs alongside the campsite, and the Cuckoo trail nearby. Wildlife and woodland surrounds the area, ideal for budding young explorers and nature enthusiasts.

Kitts Camp emphasizes a back-to-basics, eco-friendly approach to camping with a particular focus on getting away from the pace of modern (digital) life. In the centre of the site, there is a pretty Sussex field barn which offers porcelain flushing loos, hot showers, washbasins, and a washing up area. This provides a sense of being off-grid whilst maintaining essential comforts. Children will love the plentiful open space which allows large scale games and activities, and there are also tree swings, spaces for building dens and huge amounts of woodland to explore.

- There is a firepit on every pitch (large groups will have access to a larger communal fire) and we will come round with wood to purchase. We request that you don't bring your own wood as among other reasons, this can spread disease to the local area.
- We offer furnished bell tents for those looking for a little more comfort but get in quick as these sell out quickly.
- If you are worried about poor weather, or perhaps that your children might be ill for your trip, you can purchase Yamp Camp Flex which allows you to transfer your booking to another available weekend (See terms and conditions).
